Teaser 1: Arbitration and Climate Change in 5 Minutes

In June 2016, Wendy Miles QC, member of ICCA’s Programme Committee for the 2018 ICCA Sydney Congress, delivered the fourth annual Proskauer Lecture on International Arbitration, "New Challenges for International Dispute Resolution in an Era of Climate Change.”  The lecture, hosted by Proskauer, Columbia University School of Law’s Center for International Commercial and Investment Arbitration, and ICC USA, was greeted with enthusiasm by the New York audience and described by Professor George Bermann of Columbia Law School as “a truly inspiring call to arms".

For the benefit of those who were not in the audience that day, ICCA invited Wendy to discuss on video some of the key points of her lecture, share some insights into what drove her to this particular topic, and give some practical steps that arbitration lawyers might take to engage in the new green economy and contribute to the combat against climate change. On 7 October 2016, Wendy sat down in conversation with Judith Levine, Senior Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague and visiting lecturer on climate law disputes at King’s College London.  The video was taped in the London office of Boies, Schiller & Flexner where Wendy is partner and global head of arbitration.

We bring you a teaser of the full conversation, which will be made available in 2017.
