Meet the speakers for ICCA 2020 Edinburgh: Louise Arbour to present keynote address and full slate of panelists confirmed

ICCA is proud to share the full list of speakers for the 25th ICCA Congress, set to take place in Edinburgh on 10-13 May 2020.

With the Congress just six months away, the ICCA 2020 Edinburgh Programme Committee is pleased to announce as keynote speaker Louise Arbour, former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and former Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as the full line-up of panelists. Asked about their choice for keynote speaker, Programme Committee Chairs Cavinder Bull, Loretta Malintoppi and Constantine Partasides commented: “It is our intention that the Congress will do more than take stock of achievements in the field of international arbitration by exploring new ideas to adapt international arbitration to a fast-changing environment and to shape its future.  Given Justice Arbour’s distinguished career devoted to, among many other subjects, the resolution of conflicts and the enhancement of justice and the rule of law around the world, we could think of no one better who embodied the ideas and values we seek to promote at this Congress.”

The programme features 16 panels, as well as an opening and closing address, and a total of 85 participants. 69 of the panelists will contribute to the programme as speakers and 16 will contribute as moderators. Asked about their selection process for the programme, the Committee Chairs noted that expertise in the relevant subject matter, gender, nationality, age, location, diversity of institutional representation, previous involvement in ICCA activities, including prior participation in ICCA Congresses, were taken into account in the selection of candidates. The Co-Chairs say: “The selection process included full consideration of the many candidates who applied through the competitive Expressions of Interest (EOI) process as well as others suggested by the ICCA Executive Committee, the Programme Committee and the Host Committee.  We received an outpouring of interest through the EOI process, receiving applications from more than 280 applicants. It was not easy to choose from so many talented candidates!”
