On Tuesday 26 March 2019, ICCA, ICC Mexico and the ICC Court of Arbitration co-hosted a Conference on the “Role of the Judiciary in Arbitration” in Mexico City.

The one-day conference was attended by some 200 participants and the programme included ICCA President Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler, former ICCA Presidents Donald Donovan and Albert Jan van den Berg, and prominent Mexican specialists Claus von Wobeser and Eduardo Siqueiros. The keynote address was given by ICCA Judiciary Committee Co-chair Judge Dominique Hascher, and several other ICCA Governing Board Members featured on the programme. Held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Mexico City, the conference provided the arbitration community in Mexico City with an excellent opportunity to engage with a critical topic in the field and discuss related issues in international arbitration with dispute resolution practitioners and specialists from around the world. The programme covered topics such as: the role of arbitral tribunals and courts according to different jurisdictions, the enforcement of court or arbitrator-ordered interim measures, judicial assistance in the taking and disclosure of evidence, causes for non-enforcement, and investment arbitration post-NAFTA.

ICCA President Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler said: “ICCA is delighted to have played a role in organizing this excellent event. We enjoyed the opportunity to exchange information and ideas with the arbitration community in Mexico City, and look forward to collaborating with ICC Mexico and the ICC Court of Arbitration again in the future.”
