ICCA and ICSID Collaborate to Host Webinar on the Report of the Cross-Institutional Task Force on Gender Diversity in Arbitral Appointments and Proceedings

Following the release of the Report of the Cross-Institutional Task Force on Gender Diversity in Arbitral Appointments and Proceedings last month, ICCA is pleased to announce that it will be co-hosting a webinar with the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) to discuss the Report and its findings.  The ICCA-ICSID webinar will take place on Thursday 3 September at 3.00pm CEST.

The Report, which is available via Kluwer Arbitration and the ICCA website, publishes and analyses recent statistics on the appointment of female arbitrators, identifying recent trends as well as opportunities for progress. The Report also discusses barriers to greater gender diversity in arbitral appointments and proceedings and and identifies opportunities and best practices to promote women in international arbitration.

Task Force Chair and ICCA Governing Board Member Carolyn Lamm will begin the session by providing an overview of the Report and the Task Force’s main findings, before Task Force Member Nicola Peart of Three Crowns LLP expands upon the Report’s identification of trends in the data. Independent arbitrator Lucy Greenwood will then address pipeline issues that create barriers to greater gender diversity in arbitral appointments before the panel moves to discuss arbirtal appointments from the perspectives of three key stakeholders. Presenting the perspective of parties in the position of appointing arbitrators will be ExxonMobil Senior Counsel Tom Sikora. Vice President of the Latin American Arbitration Association Claus von Wobeser will address arbitrator appointments from the perspective of co-arbitrators. Finally, ICSID Secretary-General and fellow ICCA Governing Board Member Meg Kinnear, will provide the arbitral institution perspective, speaking also to the techniques used by institutions to promote gender diversity in arbitral tribunals.

Webinar participants will be encouraged to submit questions to the panelists throughout the session, to be addressed in a Q&A session at the end of the event.
