New York Convention Roadshow in Paphos, Cyprus
A successful ICCA Roadshow on the 1958 United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards was held in Paphos, Cyprus on 19 September, attended by 25 members of the Cypriot judiciary.
The Roadshow was opened by Honourable Justice Myron Nikolatos, the President of the Supreme Court of Cyprus, who stressed the importance of the New York Convention in international commercial arbitration.
ICCA Governing Board Members Professor Pierre Tercier and Judge Dominique Hascher also addressed the Cypriot judges. Professor Pierre Tercier opened the session by emphasizing the importance of maintaining an open dialogue between judges and arbitration practitioners, and the pro-enforcement philosophy of the Convention. Judge Hascher led the next session, giving a detailed article-by-article analysis of the New York Convention.
Following an active Q&A session between the speakers and the Cypriot judges, Justice Erotocritou, Judge of the Supreme Court of Cyprus, concluded the Roadshow with his closing remarks, highlighting the significant educational nature of such events for the Cypriot judiciary.
