ICCA elects new President per 1 April 2016

ICCA is pleased to announce that Donald Francis Donovan has been elected its next President.  He will take office on 1 April 2016.

Mr. Donovan is Co-Head of the International Disputes Group at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and serves as counsel in international disputes before courts in the United States, international arbitration tribunals, and international courts. He has long been regarded as one of the leading arbitrators and arbitration practitioners in the world.

Mr. Donovan teaches International Arbitration and International Investment Law and Arbitration at the New York University School of Law, and he is the immediate past President of the American Society of International Law. He has been a member of the ICCA Governing Board (formerly the ICCA Council) since 1998 and has served as Vice-President of ICCA, head of its Foundation Committee, and Chair of the Programme Committees for the ICCA Congresses in Montreal in 2006 and Dublin in 2008.

Mr. Donovan’s full profile can be viewed on the ICCA website (http://www.arbitration-icca.org/about/governing-board/MEMBERS/Donald_Francis_Donovan.html).

Commenting on his election, Mr. Donovan said, “Since its beginnings nearly sixty years ago, ICCA has had an enormous impact on the world of international arbitration, both commercial and, more recently, investor-state. With its transformation under the leadership of Jan Paulsson and Albert Jan van den Berg to a broad-based membership organization, and the emergence of Young ICCA, it is poised to do even more. I’m grateful to my colleagues for having entrusted me with this position.”

Outgoing ICCA President Albert Jan van den Berg said that “It is with great confidence that I will hand over the ICCA Presidency to Donald Donovan in April 2016. Donald has been associated with ICCA since 1998 and he has served the organisation with energy and creativity during that time. He has my congratulations and warmest support going forward.”
