New York Convention Roadshow in Lima, Peru
Report written by Dyalá Jiménez
The Peruvian judiciary gathered for ICCA’s New York Convention Roadshow held on 6 August 2025 in Lima, co-organized with the Director of the Centro de Investigaciones Judiciales (Centre of Judiciary Research) and held under the sponsorship of the President of the Supreme Court of Peru. Led by Prof. Andrés Jana, Chair of ICCA’s Judiciary Committee, and Dyalá Jiménez, Member of ICCA’s Judiciary Committee, the event formed part of ICCA’s ongoing engagement with national judiciaries to promote dialogue on arbitration and the enforcement of arbitral awards.
The Roadshow benefitted from the participation of two local practitioners as special guest speakers: José Daniel Amado and María del Carmen Tovar.
The event was attended in person by nearly 60 participants, including judges and staff from the Procuraduría General del Estado (Attorney General’s Office). In addition, several participants joined remotely from various regions across the country. The lecture will be shared nationwide through the Judiciary’s online channel.
The event enabled meaningful dialogue between members of ICCA’s Judiciary Committee and key stakeholders from the Peruvian judiciary and the Attorney General’s Office.
The discussions took place within the context of Peru’s well-established arbitration framework, characterized by: (a) a constitutional recognition of arbitration as a jurisdictional activity; (b) a modern and more-favourable legislative regime; and (c) a strong public policy promoting arbitration, particularly in contracts involving State entities.
In parallel, Young ICCA organized a related event in Peru, on 5 August 2025, focused on enforcement issues for young practitioners and modelled on a similar initiative previously held at the ICCA-KIAC Conference in Kigali in June 2025. Following a general and jurisdiction-specific theoretical sessions, the concluding segment featured a focused, dialogue-based discussion led by Andrés Jana and Dyalá Jiménez, structured around the fact pattern of a mock case.
