ICCA welcomes five new Governing Board Members

ICCA welcomes five new members to its Governing Board in April: Juan Fernández-Armesto (Spain), Partner, at Armesto & Asociados, based in Madrid; Vera van Houtte (Belgium), Independent Arbitrator based in Belgium; Vladimir Khvalei (Russia), Partner at Baker & McKenzie CIS, based in Moscow; Loretta Malintoppi (Italy), Barrister at 39 Essex Chambers, based in Singapore; and Zia Mody (India), Partner at AZB & Partners, based in Mumbai. They will take office on 1 April 2017 for a term of four years.

ICCA President Donald Donovan expressed his enthusiasm for the new Governing Board Members, saying “We are very pleased to announce these new appointments to the ICCA Governing Board. ICCA is committed to developing the practice of arbitration worldwide, and it is important that our leadership consist of leading arbitrators, arbitration practitioners, in-house counsel, judges, and executives of administering organizations from around the globe. This group will add to both the stature and the diversity of our Board. We look forward to working with these new Governing Board Members over the next four years.” 

ICCA Vice-President and Nominations Committee Chair, Meg Kinnear, was equally enthusiastic about the latest appointments to the Governing Board. “As we take on new projects and prepare for the next ICCA Congress in Sydney in April 2018, we will be glad to have these five distinguished individuals on the ICCA Governing Board to contribute to our efforts to advance arbitration on a global scale.” The nominations committee consists of Teresa Cheng SC (Des Voeux Chambers, Hong Kong), V.V. Veeder SC (Essex Court Chambers, London), Makhdoom Ali Khan (Fazleghani Advocates, Karachi) and Lise Bosman (ICCA Executive Director, ex officio).

The new members will replace five outgoing Governing Board Members:  Bernardo Cremades, Bernard Hanotiau, Neil Kaplan, Fathi Kemicha and Francisco Orrego Vicuna. Each has rendered long and valuable service to ICCA, and each will be invited to join ICCA’s Advisory Board.
