Werner Melis is the President of the International Arbitral Centre of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, Vienna (VIAC). He lectures international commercial arbitration at the Vienna University. He has been an arbitrator in more than 150 international arbitrations world-wide. He has been a member of the Austrian delegation in the negotiations of the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules, the UNCITRAL Conciliation Rules and the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration.
Werner Melis has been a Vice-President of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA). He is a member of the panels of arbitrators of ICSID and the Arbitration Centres in Beijing, Bucharest, Budapest, Cairo, Delhi, Hong Kong, Kiev, Ljubljana, Moscow, Prague, Singapore, Vienna, Vilnius, Warsaw, and Zagreb.
He is author and co-editor of various contributions to professional journals and textbooks on international civil procedure, international trade terms (such as INCOTERMS) and international trade law (especially the Vienna Sales Convention). DDr. Melis is also author of the chapter on Austria in the International Handbook on Commercial Arbitration.
