Professor David Williams QC currently practises as a Barrister with Bankside Chambers in Auckland and Singapore and as a door tenant at Essex Court Chambers, London. He earned an LL.B degree from the University of Auckland and an LL.M from Harvard University. For 18 years he was a partner in the leading Auckland firm of Russell McVeagh. He moved to the Independent Bar and became a QC in 1987. He served as a Judge of the High Court of New Zealand from 1992-1994 but returned to practice at the Bar and established an international arbitration practice as a Chartered Arbitrator. For some years he has taught international arbitration at the University of Auckland Law School. In 2011 his jointly authored treatise, Williams & Kawharu on Arbitration was published by LexisNexis, Wellington, New Zealand.
Member of the IBA Working Group which produced the IBA Guidelines on Conflicts of Interest in International Arbitration 2004; Member International Law Association, Committee on International Arbitration; Honorary Professor of Law, University of Auckland 2010.
